Worktops
A kitchen countertop should combine practical functions with an aesthetic appearance. On the one hand, kitchen countertops should be properly matched to the kitchen cabinets, the color of the walls, tiles and the entire kitchen arrangement. Kitchen countertops in the same color as the cabinets, as well as countertops contrasting with other elements of the kitchen decor, are popular. On the other hand, kitchen countertops should also be solid and resistant to mechanical damage and dirt resulting from everyday activities. Therefore, it is very important what material for the kitchen worktop we choose. There are quite a lot of possibilities: wooden, stone, laminated kitchen countertops, made of modern composites or quartz sinters. Kitchen countertops made of stainless steel or ceramic tiles are also less common.
Laminate kitchen countertops
By far the most popular category of kitchen worktops are the so-called laminates. Laminate kitchen worktops are made of chipboard, on which a paper decor (pattern) is applied. Then the surface and edges of the kitchen countertop are protected with a special laminate. Thanks to this protective layer, laminated kitchen countertops are resistant to mechanical damage and high temperatures (up to 180 degrees Celsius). The advantages of laminated kitchen countertops include that they are very easy to keep clean. For their daily care, a damp sponge with a bit of universal detergent, for example dishwashing liquid, is enough.
A layer of special paper is responsible for the appearance of the laminate worktop. Thanks to this, laminate kitchen worktops are available in a very large number of patterns and colors. You can easily find laminated kitchen worktops imitating natural wood, stone or other materials. It is also worth mentioning that laminated kitchen countertops are available in both matte and glossy versions. The only disadvantage of laminated countertops is their slightly lower resistance than countertops made of materials such as wood or stone.
